I am sitting at the orthodontist waiting on Emily. We had an early, shortened MT so we haven’t
gotten to The Book Thief yet but we
did most everything else including Shakespeare and Plutarch and the ever
popular hymn singing.
Dermatology appointment was a success. I am excused until next year. Always
something I thank the Lord for. Technically, I could be dead.
Weigh-in was a success if you use a small measure for
success. I do. Down .8 but that makes me down 7.8 for the last 4 weeks and that
makes me .8 closer to my goal. Habits are built in small increments. I am all
about the tiny steps that lead to change.
If you want to have MT but it seems overwhelming just try
singing a hymn together every morning for a month or reading one Bible verse. Next month add a poem. Build habit upon habit
until you have built into the lives of your children moments and moments of
truth, goodness and beauty.
Here is a hint for homeschooling: Only use workbooks to save
time for better things. Workbooks should
buy you time; if they do not, get rid of them. They are not worth it. Do you
want your child to build up moment after moment of workbook pages over the
course of their short time at home or moments of the true, good and beautiful? It is appalling for me to see that whole
methods of homeschooling are built around filing workbook pages for the
year. Here there be dragons. Efficiency is not your friend and never will
be if you are pursuing a classical, Christian or Charlotte Mason education.
First baseball game of the season in a couple of hours. I am so excited for Benjamin.
But the best thing about today is that it is Bella Day. Happy 2nd
Birthday to Anabella, our 2nd granddaughter. Vanessa said she saw a
lady with long blond hair at the grocery store and insisted it was Cici. I love
stories like that. She knows me. And Tim may have gotten a new grandpa name.
Instead of Pappy, Bella calls him ‘Happy.”
We are all surprised she didn’t call him “Sleepy.”
And as soon as Emily gets out of the orthodontist we are on
our way to the gym where I will work on my 5K time and Emily will walk faster
than I run. Can you believe she is still in there?

I just love all your chatty posts recently, Cindy.
ReplyDeleteThat Bella is such a pretty little thing!
Thanks for encouraging morning time. I need to stop grieving the loss of days and start now to redeem what is left. What a precious granddaughter!
ReplyDeleteBella looks like a baby doll! Her name suits her to a "T".
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the weight loss! I'm hanging in there with you...on the eating healthy food within a reasonable calorie range part...not on the running part. I'm always impressed with runners, but these days I'm all about gentle exercise to keep my joints happy. :)

Cindy, disheartened mama here. Do your children enjoy morning meetings? I feel like we have had one of our best school years this year. The main reason is we have faithfully had morning meetings. But, several of my children don't like it. Most of the time I just let it roll off my back because I am convinced of the good of it. But, some days it gets to me. Yesterday and today I have wondered if I shouldn't just order them Paces. I am taking the day off and seeking to encourage myself. Thanks for listening and always encouraging us to keep on keeping on!
ReplyDeleteI love your tip for homeschooling. I too am appalled when I see entire homeschools revolving around each child's stack of workbooks and a couple of token books. (one popular one around here assigns 2-3 books per YEAR for each child. Granted, the books are at least good ones... but still, per year??) Really, are they serious? Yes, it can seem easy and it does make moms feel like they have covered "everything", but have the children made any real connections or had any thoughts or ideas other than, "this is boring"?
