"St Augustine defines virtue as ordo amoris, the ordinate condition of the affections in which every object is accorded that kind of degree of love which is appropriate to it.11 Aristotle says that the aim of education is to make the pupil like and dislike what he ought.12 When the age for reflective thought comes, the pupil who has been thus trained in 'ordinate affections' or 'just sentiments' will easily find the first principles in Ethics; but to the corrupt man they will never be visible at all and he can make no progress in that science.13 Plato before him had said the same. The little human animal will not at first have the right responses. It must be trained to feel pleasure, liking, disgust, and hatred at those things which really are pleasant, likeable, disgusting and hateful."

This Week

This has been a busy week!! My husband has been home on his 7 day which is a boon to his otherwise wicked swing shift schedule. He decided to organize the garage and downstairs bedroom which turned out to be a blessing. I said turned out because you know how it is when men start messing with things.

We had two birthdays amongst our large clan:

Georgia Rae turned 4!!

Blakers turned 3!!

Which means we got to sing 'Happy Birthday' on Skype twice this week.

Yesterday we were at the pediatric cardiologist for the entire morning.  There was a concern about Alex's heart but all is well. Big giant sigh of relief. I was quite nervous about this situation as my niece had open heart surgery for a defect and I did not want Alex to go through that. Alex is so excited that he can play baseball this year after all.

Today Andrew has a dermatology appointment because one of his moles came back displastic. Since I had melanoma, dermatology appointments are critical events in our family.

In the happy news column I finally ran the a whole 5K on the treadmill yesterday. I did it at a 4 mph pace.  Some people can walk at that pace but I cannot walk past 3.5. My legs are just too short. I run (or whatever you call what I do) a real 5K on Feb. 23 so I hope I can shave some time off of that before then.

Now off to finish Treasure Island.

  1. Go Cindy! Wish I could be there to cheer you on. (Notice I didn't say "run alongside you." Yep...cheering is definitely my thing!

  2. Kudos on that run!!!

I can jog, but then only for a couple of minutes before I have to slow down to a hurried walk. Otherwise my heart rate gets going too fast.

Love seeing pics of the grands ~

So glad to hear all is well with the cardiologist. I love that photo of Georgia Rae. She looks like she is Miss Personality. How nice to be able to capture that on film.
