This week has been one of those busy weeks with dentist appointments and telephone calls. I do not do very well with the telephone. I hate making phone calls. Today I need to make calls to get a repairman to look at our refrigerator. We have one of those bottom freezer ones and I hate it. It freezes over regularly and then has to be unplugged for 24 hours. I spend my days hovering near it screaming at anybody who dares to open it lest they anger it and it freezes over. I have spent my entire philosophical brain power in trying to figure out why it freezes over but it reads my mind and then chooses another reason.
I also need to call Groupon because I paid for a cleaning service 3 months ago and I cannot get the people to answer their phone. I have bought 3 Groupon cleaning services so far and I love being able to have a really clean house every once in awhile but this time it didn't work out so well.
In my reading life a friend mentioned in passing that she had read an article which discussed P.D. James's 5 favorite detective novels. I could not find the article but I did find references to it and discovered that P.D. James had written a book on the subject Talking About Detective Fiction.
This turned out to be a wonderfully written, fun book which sent me to the library to try author C.J. Sansom, a newer writer, and to Paperback Swap to try the classic detective writer Cyril Hare
BTW, this book seems to be a great companion to Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies since it also has Thomas Cromwell as a minor character.
See you tomorrow, Lord willing, when we will hear about my upcoming Circe talk and my imaginary trip to Paris. And one of these days I will put up the next chapter of The Mind of the Maker.
At one time the words just flowed for me. Now that is not so. I miss blogging and am hoping that changes.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're pressing through ~
I expect age and hormones play a part in this. So many of my longtime blogger friends have slowed down if not quit. I sense that blogging is already a passing fad and information is being passed along now through other channels. I don't suppose we can claim that blogging is a Luddite pursuit yet.
ReplyDeleteCindy, Cindy,...be comforted.
ReplyDelete*I* am the world's worst blogger.
Or wait...maybe I'm just a non-blogger. I think blogging is still a going concern, enhanced by Facebook, Pinterest, and probably some other things I don't know about, but...::::whispers::::: there might be too many of them out there.
Yours is not of the expendable crewman.
Karen,
DeleteI am always delighted when a post from you shows up on my Google Reader even though it usually means I have to buy another book.
You might get a kick out of this, then--
DeleteI've known for YEARS that I would enjoy the TV program Lost because of you (plus a couple of other bloggers, but mostly you). So when you posted your recent "What I've been watching" post, I decided to look into your programs and see if there was anything there I'd like (especially when you said you bailed on Revolution, as we did also. Yuck. I watched a few more episodes than you did, and I still didn't care about a single character).
So, now we're watching Person of Interest, Castle, Bones, and Once a Upon a Time...all because of you. ;-) How am I supposed to get any reading done?? :)
I think you have a point about age and hormones. I am coming out of blogging hibernation, and I've noticed that it is taking me much longer to think and write. And sometimes it takes longer because I've misplaced my reading glasses.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you haven't quit blogging. :-)
Just added you to my Google Reader and will be looking forward to reading your posts. I have enjoyed seeing your family on FB too. Your kids are so handsome and adorable.
DeleteHi there!
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying the chit-chatty blog. Even if it's temporary, at least you're doing something (unlike some of us....ahem....anyway). Please feel free to take as long as you need before getting the next MOM chapter up. I need to catch up!
Let's see....find of the month: Spanx reversible tights. Brown on one side, black on the other. Nifty invention! Revelation: If I order Starbucks Americano instead of coffee, it's better because it's freshly ground. I made shrimp and grits last night (paleo version) that was pretty darn good! (Even using cauliflower for the "grits.") Ok that covers food, drink, and fashion...over and out!
Hugs!
It would take me an hour to figure out which side was black and which brown. I am never really sure which of mine I am wearing. And sometimes Emily insists I am wearing blue....
DeleteSo the Americano is paleo? I am having trouble keeping up my Gold Card with the WW points system. I usually order tea at Starbucks now but I love sipping coffee at Covenant's blustery games.
I enjoy your ramblings, Cindy, especially when they include book suggestions. :) I don't know that blogs are passé quite yet. Facebook doesn't really work for long posts and the comments here are often as much fun as the original post. I hope you blog for a long time to come.
ReplyDeleteJoy, where there is finally snow and more to come today
Americano is just espresso with hot water added to fill out the cup. Works for me!
ReplyDeleteSigh...I wish I had my wardrobe "eyes" still here at home. I don't trust myself and sometimes send Kristin texts: "Does this go together?" Enjoy those blustery games! Can you believe it has been a year already since Scholarship Weekend?
Cindy, these chatty posts of yours are some of my favorites. I would cry if you stopped blogging. This is the kind of encouragement I need - this kind of life is lived and mingled with everything else. The philosophy is good (if often brain-hurting), but this kind of day to day living life helps me. Thank you.
