"St Augustine defines virtue as ordo amoris, the ordinate condition of the affections in which every object is accorded that kind of degree of love which is appropriate to it.11 Aristotle says that the aim of education is to make the pupil like and dislike what he ought.12 When the age for reflective thought comes, the pupil who has been thus trained in 'ordinate affections' or 'just sentiments' will easily find the first principles in Ethics; but to the corrupt man they will never be visible at all and he can make no progress in that science.13 Plato before him had said the same. The little human animal will not at first have the right responses. It must be trained to feel pleasure, liking, disgust, and hatred at those things which really are pleasant, likeable, disgusting and hateful."

New Year's Eve Menu

We like to have a smorgasbord on New Year's Eve. We usually begin early in the evening setting out various finger foods and continuing on until bedtime. Sometimes we do it on the hour just to keep it from disappearing too quickly.

Usually my brother's wife, Kenni, is here to help me and I miss her so I bought a bit more ready made stuff

Crunchy Shrimp Sushi (Publix: where shopping IS a pleasure!)
Cream Cheese Sushi
Shrimp
Crab Rangoon
Cream Cheese Wontons
Maxwell Crescents
(We miraculously forgot these in the freezer over Christmas)
Cheese Straws
Fruit Bowl
Chips
Big Chocolate cookies
Hot Crab Dip
Crackers/cheese/sausage
Chick Fil A Chicken Minis
Chocolate Covered Pretzels
Cracker Candy

Champagne, Sangria, Coffee etc.

Tomorrow we are having:
Corn & Cheese Chowder

  1. Yay!!! You found the won ton wrappers!
We had a new recipe: Creamy Chicken Lasagna (Pastry Queen Christmas by Rebecca Rather). It was a hit! (What's not to love about a recipe that contains a ton of butter, cream, parmesan, and monterey jack cheese. What it has going for it: Not a single drop of canned cream of anything.)
Both grandsons are down for the night and we're watching reruns of Coach. How grandparents party.

  2. I did find the wrappers! Thanks :) But I have now postponed all wontons until tomorrow. Those Chick Fil A minis along with cheese straws and buttery crescents about did us in. So now our New Year's Day menu includes the wontons. Now off to put the crab dip in the oven for the next round of eating.
